Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST)

Wonderlic Basic Skills Test (WBST) is designed to measure your basic abilities in verbal and mathematical areas. This test is generally applied on adults for the entry level jobs. It can be completed quickly within a shorter period of time.

The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test results provide critical data to measure your skill level, cognitive capabilities and future performance. The scores also expose your capability to use your verbal and math skills in real world working situations.

The Wonderlic Basic Skills Test is a brief test of verbal and mathematics ability. It is used to pair adults with jobs that are appropriate for their skill level. The developers of the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test have collaborated with the US Department of Labor to determine the level of verbal and math ability that is advantageous to individuals in every job. In addition, the test developers work with private businesses to establish skill criteria for potential employees. For each position listed in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, there is a minimum amount of verbal and math ability that is required.

The WBST strives to ascertain whether a job applicant has this minimum ability. Though the WBST is most commonly administered during the hiring process, it may also be used to determine whether an employee should receive training on the job. The items on the WBST will range from fill-in-the-blank vocabulary questions to arithmetic to brief word problems. Like the Wonderlic Personnel Test, the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test is a short-form assessment of cognitive ability, and should take less than 15 minutes to complete. The WBST is administered with paper and pencil, and can either be scored with personal computer software or by faxing or e-mailing the test responses to the test developer. There are different forms of the exam that can be used for testing groups or for retesting individuals.
